      GOODFELLOWS  2011
Above is a picture of the volunteers from Sat 12-16-11 that weathered the cold to help Huron Township Rotary / Goodfellows with this years program.   In total over the 3 major days of Goodfellows we had 497 community volunteers come out and help.   Those that volunteered were kids from our schools looking to get community service hours,  many brought their parnets, many have gone on to college but keep coming back for this event.  School staff, school bus drivers, school custodians and teachers.  We had volunteers from our local Fire Dept.,  the local C.E.R.T. team as well as Township Trusties.  We even have people that use to live in the community and know what a great program this is and they keep helping out year after year evn though they don't live here anymore.

This year we were able to supply 150 families with food baskets that contained a very large amout of can and boxed food items, a frozen turkey, a 10lb bag of potatoes, a bag of apples and a gift certifacate for $25.00 to our local grocery store The Country Pantry in New Boston.  With these families they had 257 children ages 12 and younger which we provided gifts for.   Each child received 3 major toys, 3 small stocking stuffers, a set of hats and mittens, a stuffed animal and a book.  Also each family with children received a family game.  But we did not stop there,  there were several children that we brought to our attention that they did not have a proper coat for winter.  Several people that prefer to remain anonymous donated winter coats to use so that we could have them on hand when needed.  We disbursted 6 winter coats so far this year.

Our Goodfellow program runs all year long even though Christmas is the most demanding.   We do many things on the one off like coats,  boots and other types of clothing.  We have provided eyeglasses to school children of  families that do not have insurance or can not afford them.  We have provided food many times through out the year to families and our local food pantries.

Thanks to all that helped this year and every year past.  We hope to continue this type of giving in the future.

God Bless All and please have a happy and safe holiday season.
